5 Tips for Creating a Great Facebook Page

Step 1. Ensure that you have an appropriate profile picture.

In this example, Sara Salon & Spa has a profile picture with just a head shot of a model with makeup. This picture doesn’t show us the name of the business, we don’t even know if the makeup was one by the salon themselves. It would be important for this business to have a clear profile picture with the name of their business, logo or even a photo of their salon with the name of the salon above of below it.

With this example, we have the official Apple Facebook with their universally recognizable logo as their profile picture. Having their logo as the profile picture is very effective as people would recognize it straight away when searching for the page. The Apple logo as a profile picture is an excellent example of an effective profile picture for a company.




According to blog.bufferapp.com, Facebook profile pictures need to be 160 x 160 tall. The Maximum size would be 180 x 180 (pixels). This size will ensure that your entire picture will fit into the dimensions and that none of the picture will be cropped out.


Step 2. Ensure you have an appropriate URL link

Having an appropriate Facebook Page URL is essential. If your URL is a mixture of numbers and letters, your profile/business page will be hard to find when someone searches for it. Your page also doesn’t seem as legitimate without an appropriate URL. Here are some examples of good and bad URL’s.

Bad –> https://www.facebook.com/search/top/?q=makeup

Good –> https://www.facebook.com/CriminalMinds/

Step 3. Fill out all of your information in the ‘About’ section.


Here we have an example of an ‘About’ page before any information is added. It is Vital that you include as much information as possible about you or your business into this page as it will give people a clear description of you or your business.

Information you should add include : (i) Contact information (ii) Address & Map pinning your location, (iii) Your website link, (iv) Other social media links (v) Description of you or your business.

It has all of the needed information, i.e. services, description, location, map, phone number and email contacts.


Step 4. Begin to post relevant information/content onto your page.

Creating content for your page is essential when it comes to showing off your business. It shows people all of the work you do and what you offer. Its important to create content that’s interesting, meaningful, relevant and entertaining. This type of content will allow the public to continuously engage with you online.

Visual content is one of the strongest ways to catch peoples attention when they’re scrolling through Facebook. It is ideal to add a photo or video with as many posts as possible. For example, if you’re creating a page for your Hair Salon, it is important that you post pictures of peoples hair after they get it done, i.e. ‘before & after’. Having these pictures up will show potential future customers what you provide in your salon.

You can see in this picture that they are posting plenty of completed hair looks that they created in their salon.




Here is a list of all other types of content that you can post to your page.

  • Videos
  • Events
  • Competitions
  • Live Videos
  • Status’s

Building up your content is a great way to get the ball rolling and start building a following.

Step 5. Promote your page.

Promoting or boosting your Facebook page is a really good way to reach a bigger audience. Once you’ve set up your Facebook Page, you can build an audience of people who are interested in what you have to offer. People can like your Page and sign up to receive notifications when you publish updates, helping you reach customers and stay top of mind with them.

You can also boost your posts on Facebook to reach a wider audience, you set a target date and have to pay a certain amount of money for those days when your post will be boosted.


As you can see in the picture, you can set a max budget and that budget will determine how many people your post will reach. By doing this you will receive a lot more attention on that post and you could also attract more likes onto your page.
